Review Small Business Permit Process
Release Date: December 19, 2002

URGING TOWN BOARDS TO REVIEW PROCEDURES RE: GRANTING APPROVALS TO SMALL BUSINESSES FOR PERMITS---are we being unfair? I've received many complaints from residents about the treatment Venetian Delight received from the town before getting approval to expand their restaurant on Central Ave. The restaurant is located in a small shopping area that's been there for over 30 years.. This expansion will have little impact on traffic, land use The application was first submitted to extend their space on Feb 23, 200l. They just received their c/o in December, 2002. Should we change our code so small businesses won't have to experience as much government red tape? I've asked the Planning Commissioner to conduct a study of the process that occurred in this instance and to make recommendations to members of the Town Board. Venetian Delight needed extra dining space and replaced a busy deli that creates more traffic than a dining room. I plan to meet with the Town, Zoning and Planning Boards in 2003 and to develop legislation to improve the process. Why send businesses away in these hard times?
