WESTCHESTER LIBRARY SYSTEM TO POLL LIBRARIES...LIBRARY BIDS OPEN ON TUESDAY..BUDGET TOMORROW..
Release Date: October 29, 2006

An article in today's Journal News (www.lohud.com) reports that the Westchester Library System will be polling all the libraries in Westchester to solicit their input regarding the Elmsford/Ardsley library contract. Earlier this fall Elmsford pulled out of the Greenburgh library and entered into a less expensive contract with Ardsley. The town of Greenburgh will be losing over $250,000 a year in revenue. Under the current rules of the WLS anyone in Westchester who has a library card from any library in the system can take out books anywhere. Critics of the Ardsley/Elmsford contract argue that this agreement will result in libraries around the county offering other localities inexpensive contracts and participating in bidding wars. A decision by the Library system is expected before the end of the year.

Bids for the library expansion will be open at Town Hall on Tuesday. I will be releasing my proposed 2007 budget tomorrow afternoon. The budget message will be posted on the web on Monday, the entire budget will be available on our web site (www.greenburghny.com) later in the week.

On Tuesday night (halloween) I will join Chief Kapica patrolling the streets of Greenburgh. In past years we have stopped by at homes that have had previous halloween night problems (eggs thrown at windows, etc..). If you would like us to stop by to check up on you - please e mail me at pfeiner@greenburghny.com
