ELMSFORD MAY LEAVE GREENBURGH LIBRARY FOR ARDSLEY- $1 million loss
Release Date: September 30, 2006

There is an article in today's Journal News (www.lohud.com) indicating that the Village of Elmsford may end its contract with the Greenburgh library and will enter a contract with the Ardsley library instead. If this happens Greenburgh's Library will lose over a million dollars over the next 4 years.
The Greenburgh Library is an independent board of the town. I had offered to participate in the negotiations with Elmsford but the Greenburgh Library Board did not want me to be involved. I had also expressed concerns about this possibility prior to last years library referendum.
If Elmsford enters into a contract with Ardsley instead of Greenburgh Elmsford residents will still have 100% access to the Greenburgh Library and will be able to take out books from the Greenburgh library because Ardsley is a member of the Westchester Library system.
Demita Gerber, director of the Library, indicated  in todays paper that this proposed agreement might not be legal.
