FEINER TO PROPOSE RESOLUTION CALLING ON CON ED TO STUDY UNDERGROUND POWER LINES
Release Date: September 05, 2006

Greenburgh Town Supervisor Paul Feiner will propose a resolution before the Greenburgh Town Board urging Con Ed to conduct a study to determine the costs and benefits of phasing in a plan to place power lines under ground. The recent storm resulted in power outages for many Greenburgh residents. Many of these outages were caused because trees went down. If power lines were placed below ground - we could avoid outages.  For some people - this was the 4th, 5th or 6th time this year that power went out for a significant number of days.
We do not live in a third world country. We should be able to rely on electricity. Some of my constituents who are experiencing power outages are elderly, disabled or suffer from major medical problems. The lack of power creates enormous medical concerns for them.
Feiner said that he will also contact other municipal officials from around the county and will ask that they approve a similar resolution calling for a study of the costs and benefits of placing power lines under ground. The resolution that Feiner will introduce will be voted on by the Greenburgh Town Council on Wednesday, September 13th at 7:15 PM.
