Should the town of Greenburgh ask NYS to authorize eyesore/vacant property taxes on commercial buildings? There are some empty storefronts/businesses in the town. Some storefronts have been left empty for months. The health spa on Central Ave in the Edgemont section of town has been vacant for decades. Greenburgh is not alone. Some communities around the nation have either explored or imposed vacant/eyesore taxes on properties that have been vacant for a long period of time. The goal: to encourage landowners to rent their properties rather than leave them vacant. This suggestion has been proposed to me by residentswho are upset at the vacancies. We would need state legislation to implement the concept. What are your thoughts?
