2019 sanitation calendar changes--weekly pickup of paper, commingles
Release Date: December 13, 2018

2019 SANITATION CALENDAR CHANGES  --WE WILL PICK UP PAPER AND COMMINGLES EVERY WEEK AND KEEP TWICE A WEEK GARBAGE PICKUP (EXCEPTIONS DURING HOLIDAY WEEKS FOR RECYCLING)—

Your calendar should arrive soon before the end of the year---and will also be posted on the website

In recent years more and more people have been making their purchases via Amazon and e commerce. The result: lots of boxes. We decided to adjust our sanitation schedule beginning in January, 2019. We will pick up paper and commingles every week instead of every two weeks. And, will also keep the twice a week garbage pickup schedule.
In January we will complete the transition from the old fashioned garbage trucks to the one arm bandit trucks which use an automatic hand to pick up garbage. The last section of town that currently doesn't have the service will be given the garbage cans sometime by mid January.

There will be no increase in the number of sanitation workers on our town payroll. In fact, in recent years we have reduced the number of employees on our staff. Our sanitation workers will have less weight to pick up every time they pick up paper--thanks to the new schedule. The town could also save money because the county does not charge us a tipping fee for recycling. But we are charged a fee for sanitation.  So if more people recycle paper - it will cost the town less. You should be receiving your 2019 calendar in the mail before the first of the year. And,  if you don't (mail service has been horrible in recent months)we will post the schedule on the town website: greenburghny.com.

PS: The consultant the town hired to revamp the website has been meeting with officials and department heads and hopes to complete the new and improved Greenburgh website by the spring of 2018.
