Town Board takes action to revitalize 4 corners in Hartsdale
Release Date: October 25, 2018

TOWN BOARD FORWARDS 4 CORNERS VISION STATEMENT TO PLANNING BOARD FOR REVIEW—WE ARE HOPING TO REVITALIZE THE 4 CORNERS--We authorized purchase of properties on W Hartsdale Ave for eventual widening of portion of W Hartsdale Ave to reduce traffic congestion

The 4 corners in Hartsdale has been plagued with numerous vacancies over the years. We have been working with the civic leaders, the neighborhood association, with representatives of property owners on a plan to revitalize the 4 corners. At our last Town Board meeting, we forwarded a vision plan (4C Study) to the Planning Board for comment. These are some highlights.

The 40+ page Hartsdale 4 Corners Study identifies the challenges that exist at 4 Corners (traffic, lack of parking, stormwater/flooding, vacancies, etc.) and highlights that redevelopment can transform the area into a vibrant neighborhood center and gateway to the Hartsdale Train Station and surrounding residential communities. Concepts supporting revitalization planning are a widening of East and West Hartsdale Avenues to implement new turning lanes for better traffic flow and incorporating better sidewalk connections, supporting the development of attractive and appropriately scaled mixed-use buildings with structured parking, and incorporating greenspaces and public pockets parks/plazas into any new development.

This study is first of several planning steps, all of which will include public input. Following the Hartsdale 4 Corners Study, technical analysis regarding traffic/parking/stormwater, etc., will inform future rezoning efforts. To date, residents have made comments on improving 4 Corners and these comments continue to assist Town planning. Additional neighborhood outreach and future public hearings will take place.

 The report is attached.

WE ARE NOT GOING TO WAIT ---WE PURCHASED 2 PROPERTIES ON WEST HARTSDALE AVE SO WE COULD EVENTUALLY ADDRESS TRAFFIC CONCERNS ON W HARTSDALE AVE

At our meeting of the Town Board the Board authorized me to sign a contract to purchase two very old homes on West Hartsdale Ave in close proximity to Central Ave. Owning these two properties which are within the 4 Corners Study Area puts the Town in a great position to work collaboratively with NYS DOT and state lawmakers to study the possibility of widening the avenue, creating a turning lane that could reduce rush hour traffic congestion. The two properties contain homes in locations that preclude the construction of sidewalks and a turning lane along West Hartsdale Avenue.
