HALLOWEEN EVENTS THIS WEEKEND!.....GOOD NEWS--WESTHELP SENIOR CITIZEN AFFORDABLE HOUSING PLAN AGREED
Release Date: October 27, 2017

Some good news! The town, county executive and affordable housing developer have finalized the details to convert the abandoned WESTHELP homeless shelter on the grounds of the Westchester Community College campus to 54 senior citizen affordable housing apartments! The complex, originally built by Governor Andrew Cuomo in the late 1980s, is beautiful and seniors will have a nice quality life--able to interact with students and take courses at the College. The WESTHELP homeless shelter closed in 2011. The town will receive $600,000 from the developer. The agreement, which has the support of the Mayfair Knollwood Civic Association and Valhalla School district, now goes before the Westchester County Board of Legislators for final approval. Michael Kaplowitz, chair of the Board of Legislators, spoke in favor of the agreement at the news conference yesterday (see link below) and anticipates lots of support.. The agreement is for 65 years. And, the developer Marathon development will invest more than 6 million dollars to convert 108 apartments into 26 two bedroom apartments and 28 one bedroom apartments.  Income limits to be eligible to rent are $46,800 for single renters or $53,520 for two person households.

There is a great need for affordable senior citizen housing. In addition to this initiative the members of the Greenburgh Town Board are working with the Greenburgh Housing Authority on an exciting plan to build 82 units of affordable senior citizen apartments on Manhattan ave, replacing thirty existing units that are over 40 years old and poorly constructed
