FREE JAZZ CLINIC FOR YOUNG MUSICIANS WHO WANT TO FOLLOW THE EXAMPLE OF STAN GETZ AND CAB CALLOWAY
Release Date: July 28, 2017

Greenburgh was the home of a number of jazz greats including Stan Getz (Irvington) and Cab Calloway (unincorporated Greenburgh).  The William L. Carter Foundation is sponsoring –for the second year – a free jazz clinic for students who would like to follow their example. And –it’s free!  The dates – right before labor day, when most students are back  home from camp.

The William L Carter Jazz Clinic will offer young Jazz musicians five days of perfecting their musical talent at no cost to the young musicians. The purpose of this clinic is to learn the tricks of the trade in improvising, to develop an understanding of all the different styles that jazz has to offer, and, most importantly, to have fun playing their instruments.  Students will have the opportunity to be creative at all times.  The class will focus on the improvisation aspect of jazz and playing in small combos.  Students will learn numerous jazz standards in many different genres including swing, bebop, blues, cool, Latin, and fusion and they will all have the opportunity to improvise solos on each of these tunes in a supportive environment.

Keeping Jazz vibrant to our youth is essential for future musicians.
