Update on St. Andrews condo gas explosion
Release Date: May 14, 2014

This is an update from the Police Chief  re: explosion that happened today at St. Andrews condo. Thankfully, no fatalities or serious injuries.

At 8:25 this morning, our Police and EMS personnel responded to the St. Andrews condominium complex on a report of a house fire with a female possibly trapped in an elevator. Hastings and Ardsley Fire Departments also responded.

Hastings Fire Personnel entered the structure and found an elderly female on the 2nd floor of the townhouse. As FD personnel exited the residence and handed the resident off to Police and EMS personnel, there was a large explosion in the unit.

The female was treated for smoke inhalation as well as one of our EMT's.

All neighboring units were evacuated. Con Edison has shut off all gas and electric to the building and the surrounding units. The concern now is that there will be a partial building collapse as the unit is visibly coming apart.

Chief Chris McNerney
