sanitation cancelled tomorrow--no recycling this week--road conditions VERY BAD--CERT HELPS
Release Date: October 29, 2012

Just spoke with the Commissioner of Public Works. We will cancel sanitation pick up tomorrow (Tuesday). Sanitation pick up that normally takes place on Tuesday will take place on Wednesday. There will be NO RECYCLING this week. We will resume the normal sanitation pick up services on Thursday and Friday. On Tuesday our sanitation crew members will assist in the post hurricane clean up.

Road conditions are not good. Some streets are closed. There are downed trees/wires. We recommend that you STAY AT HOME--at least during the morning hours. We will provide you with updates on road conditions and cleanup/restoration efforts during the day. The ground is soggy --more trees could come down anytime. Many residents don't take the threat of trees falling down seriously. On Monday night a Pearl River man died when a tree struck his house in Rockland.

It's my hope that Con Ed will be able to quickly restore power to many of the thousands of Greenburgh residents out of electricity. I will provide updates as I learn of them.

Our CERT team of volunteers (17 members and police explorers) are staying over at the Multipurpose Center at AF Veteran park tonight - only 2 residents asked for shelter. Many of the CERT volunteers were also out of power. We appreciate the dedication of our CERT volunteers - who are always there for others who need food, shelter during emergencies like the one we had tonight.
