Twn Bd asked to urge State Legislature to overrule
Release Date: August 03, 2004

Greenburgh Town Supervisor Paul Feiner will ask the Greenburgh Town Board to adopt a resolution urging the NY State Legislature to overturn Governor Pataki's veto of the minimum wage increase. The existing level is $5.15. The Governor vetoed legislation that would increase the minimum wage to $7.15. This proposed increase would give New Yorkers a better opportunity to earn a livable wage. Feiner said that the state should not wait any longer for the federal government to address the issue. NY is more expensive than other states to live in. The bill the Governor vetoed would have phased in the increases over 3 years. Massachusetts, Connecticut and Vermont have increased their minimum wage laws--without a negative impact on businesses.
