update: NextG application
Release Date: January 07, 2012

A public forum was held last night in Edgemont on cell phone antenna applications. NextG wants to place antennas throughout the town in residential neighborhoods and the Edgemont Community Council expressed some concern. Some interesting info came out of the meeting... on Dec. 16, 2011, Crown Castle announced that it had reached agreement to acquire NextG.
Crown Castle holds an exclusive license to operate wireless facilities on State property including
right-of-way on roads such as Central Avenue, Dobbs Ferry Road and Saw Mill River Road.
Crown Castle's purchase of NextG would remove any impediment to NextG's use of the right-ofway,
and that was the primary reason for NextG's request for a special permit.
Michelle McNally, a former ECC president and longtime member of the Antenna Board of Review, has
written to me as an individual, urging the Town Board to refer NextG's
application back to the Antenna Review Board (circumstances have now changed). The Town Board is holding a public hearing on the application of NextG on Wednesday, January 25, 2012 at 7:30 PM. A decision re: referring the application back to the Antenna Review Board could be made on the 25th or shortly thereafter.
A special thank you...to the ECC and residents who have been working hard, providing town officials with the benefit of additional research on this matter.
