LOW INTEREST LOANS TO BUSINESSES THAT WERE DEVASTATED BY STORMS COULD FORCE SOME TO GO OUT OF BUSINESS

WE NEED GRANTS FOR BUSINESSES, NOT LOANS  ****

President Bush’s declaration of Westchesteras a disaster area does not go far enough. Under President Bush’s declaration residents are eligible for up to $28,200 to make repairs to their homes that are not covered by private insurance. Low interest loans for businesses will be awarded.

I believe that this does not go far enough. Businesses should be eligible for grants, not loans –just like homeowners. In Greenburgh businesses on East Hartsdale Avewere forced to close down temporarily due to flooding. Half of East Hartsdale Aveis currently closed for business. Providing these businesses with grants might help them survive. Providing businesses with loans may force them out of business.  These businesses have lost hundreds of thousands of dollars.

I hope that FEMA will consider granting all businesses the same grant opportunities available to homeowners. I will be reaching out to federal officials and will be urging them to push for modifications in the FEMA award program.
