Release Date: May 02, 2019

Today is Yom Hashoah, Holocaust memorial day. We must never forget the horrors of the holocaust. Six million Jews died. The Nazi's also targeted people with disabilities, polish people Jehovah's witnesses, homosexuals, gypsies and others who were also oppressed and killed.

The town will be airing all day  on public access TV interviews with holocaust survivors. Some of the interviews were taped a number of years ago but the town re-broadcasts the interviews every Yom Hashoah. The program can be seen on Altice channel 76  or Verizon 35. If a holocaust survivor in your family would like to be interviewed please advise. If you are a son or daughter of a Holocaust survivor and would like to be interviewed --sharing your family experiences as a child of a survivor, please e mail me at pfeiner@greenburghny.com

As the Holocaust & Human Rights Education Center said on their website "In recent months, Westchester County public schools and colleges have reported incidents of antisemitism. Throughout the country  mosques  are being targeted, synagogues attacked, and armed guards are a normal sight at houses of worship, schools and even early education programs.  We have been cautioned to learn the lessons of the past as history often repeats itself. We will not stand by and watch as hate unfolds- we will be upstanders and speak louder and more frequently to ensure that audiences throughout Westchester County and beyond hear our voice."  The Holocaust & Human Rights Education Center of Westchester is located at 4 West Red Oak Lane, White Plains and their phone is 696-0738.

The Holocaust & Human Rights Education Center and the Westchester Jewish Council are proud to present the Annual Westchester Countywide Yom Hashoah Holocaust Commemoration on Thursday, May 2nd from 12noon-1pm at the Garden of Remembrance in White Plains, 148 Martine Avenue. When I was a member of the Westchester County Board of Legislators the Legislature and former County Executive Andrew O'Rourke authorized the construction of this garden to remember the victims of the holocaust.   The  commemoration will again begin with  a procession of Westchester’s rescued Holocaust Torahs.  The event is free and open to the public and is rain or shine.  (please see below for more details.)
