Multicultural event this Sunday at 2 pm Hamentaschen making workshop
Release Date: March 22, 2019

The Ardsley Multicultural, Diversity and Inclusion Committee is hosting their latest multicultural event this Sunday, March 24th at the Ardsley Community Center from 2 to 4 PM.  This Sunday’s event: how to make Hamentaschen. Purim in Ardsley!

The Ardsley committee does a great job promoting inclusion and diversity. As a result of their Lunar New Year celebration earlier this year we now have a new Chinese association in the town –focusing on young families!

The purpose of the Multicultural, Diversity and Inclusion (MDI) Committee is to promote understanding, acceptance, and respect of all residents regardless of race, ethnic background, gender, sexual orientation, and abilities. It is our belief that through education and knowledge we can achieve peace.

We hosted five events so far with the goal to get to know and inform people in our community. In 2018 the first event was Holi, which is an Indian celebration of Spring. In the summer, we had salsa dancing in the Village Square. On Nov 16th, we hosted a conversation with Ms. Daisy Khan on misconceptions regarding Islam and Muslims. At the talk with Daisy Khan we had over 100 people in attendance and at least 50 of those present were middle and high school students, who were encouraged to attend due to collaboration with the Ardsley School District.

We started 2019 with a community dinner on Sunday, January 27. At the dinner there were around 60-70 community members who gathered to discuss how Ardsley can respond to hate acts. Present at the event were community members and students and faculty from Ardsley High School.

Following the dinner we hosted a Lunar New Year celebration on Saturday, February 2. At the event over 200 people attended. During the event there was dancing, a dumpling making and Taekwondo demonstration, game playing, crafts and food.

Hello Mr. Feiner,

I apologize to send this to you last minute but can you please post about the event we are having on March 24th.

We are hosting a Hamentaschen making workshop. In addition to making the cookies we will use the story of Queen Esther to talk about being an upstander.

Here is a blurb that can go with the flyer

Learn about the Jewish celebration of Purim by baking hamentaschen- the traditional holiday cookie.
All ages welcome- We will have children's activity corner.
Hear the heroic story of Esther and apply it's message to today, how can we be upstanders and protect the most vulnerable among us.
