Transit Stike Info
Release Date: December 14, 2005

I received the following information. PAUL FEINER

While it is illegal under New YorkStatelaw for New York City Transit subway and bus employees to strike, it is possible that a strike may occur on or after December 16, when their contract expires.

In the event of a strike, Metro-North service will be affected. All customers can expect lines, crowding and delays. In addition, to provide additional service to the
Bronx, Metro-North must modify some existing service. For example, many regularly scheduled trains will have fewer cars. Some Hudson and Harlem Line trains will skip their regular Bronxstation stops. New Haven Line trains will make all regularly scheduled stops, including Fordham.

Dedicated shuttle trains will operate between the
Bronxand Manhattan. To provide Bronxshuttle service, three regular Hudson Line PM peak trains will be combined. If conditions warrant, more combinations/cancellations may be necessary. Please listen for announcements and visit our website (by using the link below) for information. Also, regular Metro-North customers who commute to or from Bronxstations may have to change trains to reach their destinations.

Hudson, Harlem, and shuttle train services are detailed in the Contingency Plan Brochure available on our website (use the link below). Printed copies will also be available at ticket windows and Take One bins in Grand Central Terminal and at ticket windows at Harlem-125th Street Station.

The following changes will be in effect during the strike:

Bronxstations. Service to Riverdale, Spuyten Duyvil, Marble Hill, University Heights, and MorrisHeightswill be provided by special shuttle trains.
