Road conditions are starting to improve and roads that were closed earlier this evening are re-opening. Some residents who reached out to me upset about being stuck in traffic for hours were critical of my earlier e mails pointing out that every Westchester community was experiencing similar problems. And residents everywhere in the county were stuck in traffic, involved in accidents. Greenburgh children were not alone being stuck in a bus waiting to go home.
I am a member of the Westchester Town Supervisor’s Association. We meet monthly. I have asked that this topic be placed on our upcoming agenda. Want to evaluate our experiences and how we can improve snow removal operations when facing circumstances similar to what we experienced this afternoon. Will also reach out to NYS officials and will ask that they review snow clearing operations on NYS roads that were a mess today (Central Ave, W Hartsdale Ave, Knollwood, Dobbs Ferry Road, etc..)
Our highway crews will be out clearing the roads until they are in great shape and there should be no problems tomorrow during the early commute. I will also ask the professionals in our public works department to review our operations today and to make recommendations how we can handle storms like the one we had today. Our Department of Public Works employees work very hard, are very dedicated.
We can learn from this experience and will. I am sorry for the horrible experiences many residents have highlighted.
