CITIZEN SUCCESS STORY: COLUMBIA AVE RESIDENTS GET WHAT THEY WANTED--A NEW SIDEWALK
Release Date: October 11, 2018

RESIDENTS OF COLUMBIA AVE WERE EFFECTIVE IN GETTING A SIDEWALK THEY FELT IS NEEDED APPROVED

TOWN BOARD APPROVES COLUMBIA AVE SIDEWALK AT LAST NIGHTS MEETING
WORK TO START NEXT MONTH AND CONTINUE THRU WINTER

On March 4, 2017 residents of Columbia Ave met with me and other town officials and walked Columbia Ave. We all recognized the need for a sidewalk to be constructed and pledged to work to make the sidewalk dream become a reality.
The initiative started two years ago when Bill Sicari, a resident of Hartsdale, met with me and conducted a survey of Columbia Ave residents who felt the sidewalk was an important safety feature.  Mr. Sicari spent two years meeting with town officials, responding to neighbors questions and suggestions.  Columbia Ave is a residential street next to E Hartsdale Ave. Many commuters walk to the Hartsdale train station on Columbia.
I am very pleased to report that at our Town Board meeting last night the Board unanimously approved the following resolution awarding the contract to the lowest responsible bidder. We also  agreed to include granite curbing as the most cost effective and feasible curb approach based on the particular challenges of the job.  The use of granite will provide a very neat and tailored appearance and is durable.
Please take a look at the attached photo of the residents of your community who took the time to lobby for the sidewalk in March, 2017. They deserve our thanks.

The lesson: Your voice DOES COUNT!  Feel free to reach out anytime you have concerns, suggestions and thoughts as to how we can make your town a better place.
