NO HEADACHES TODAY IN GREENBURGH AS BAYER EXPANDS
Release Date: November 17, 2005

I was pleased to participate at a press conference with Governor Pataki on Nov 17 – announcing that Bayer HealthCare LLC will expand its Greenburgh operations. The company, which has 750 employees, will expand their operations and create 100 new jobs in Greenburgh. The company has chosen to invest millions of dollars in improvements to their Greenburgh headquarters.   Bayer HealthCare has relocated their Diabetes Cure Division to Greenburgh to consolidate it with its North American commercial functions.  They have been designated by the Empire State Development Corporation as a “Regionally Significant Manufacturer” and will benefit from NY State Empire Zone benefits. These benefits include a ten year tax exemption from state sales taxes. WestchesterCountyIDAwill arrange to exempt the company from local sales taxes on major purchases. Bayer HealthCare Diabetes Care Division is one of the largest blood glucose monitoring businesses in the world. The division offers the Ascensia suite of blood glucose monitors for diabetes self management.

The Greenburgh Town Board will hold a budget hearing on the proposed 2006 budget this Monday – November 21st at 7:15 PMat GreenburghTown Hall. The proposed budget can be read on line: www.greenburghny.com. The Board is also expected to vote on a resolution announcing our intention to hire a mediator to resolve disputes between the villages and unincorporated Greenburgh re: allocation of funds. It’s my hope that all sides will talk to each other. Hopefully, a respected mediator will be able to reduce tensions between both sides and help us develop proposed state legislation to address concerns that both the villages and unincorporated section of Greenburgh have raised.  It is expected that the resolution announcing our intent to hire a mediator will be approved unanimously by the Town Board.  The reason why the Town Board is meeting on Monday rather than on Wednesday is because of the Thanksgiving holiday.
