March for children refugees tomorrow is being organized by Irvington High School rising senior
Release Date: June 19, 2018

IRVINGTON HIGH SCHOOL STUDENT ORGANIZES MARCH TOMORROW JUNE 20TH AT 7:30 PM

MARCH FOR CHIDREN REFUGEES---TOMORROW IS WORLD REFUGEE DAY

WASHINGTON IRVING SCHOOL TO PATRIOTS PARK IN TARRYTOWN

Daniel Marshall is a rising senior at Irvington High School and he is  concerned about the direction that our country is taking, and the way that we are treating children and families who are searching for better lives. World Refugee Day is the perfect time to show our support for these families that are being torn apart at the border, and voice our opposition to Trump’s “zero tolerance” policy.

Last fall, Daniel  started a branch of a club called “Students For Refugees” at his school. His branch has been helping student refugees living in the area get accustomed to life in America, growing bonds with them through English-Spanish conversation and shared activities.

He's  hopeful that a significant group of students will come march, and has  contacted Students For Refugees groups from other schools in Westchester, including Scarsdale High School. The peaceful walk is being co-sponsored by Irvington Students for Refugees Rivertowns4refugees and other faith based and community groups. I hope to see you tomorrow evening!

It's exciting to see so many students getting involved in our democracy--speaking up on issues they believe in. Today's students will be tomorrow's elected leaders at the national, state, county and local levels.  Thank you for getting involved and making a difference.

PAUL FEINER
