CERT TEAM IS ALWAYS READY TO HELP IN EVENT OF EMERGENCIES--THEY HELPED 28 FIRE VICTIMS ON FRIDAY
Release Date: June 17, 2018

THANK YOU- CERT TEAM FOR AWAYS HELPING WHEN THERE ARE EMERGENCIES--THE CERT TEAM HELPED 28 ELMSFORD RESIDENTS THIS WEEK  THAT NEEDED SHELTER AFTER A FIRE IN AN APARTMENT BUILDING

On Friday at 3:00pm the Greenburgh CERT team was deployed to an apartment building fire on Sawmill River Road in Elmsford. As the building was unsafe to return to the residents required sheltering for the night. The team set up a reception center at the Theodore Young Community Center on Manhattan Avenue and saw to it the residents arrived there in a safe and timely manner.

The Greenburgh Police Dept. was exceptional in moving the CERT Equipment-Trailer and Van to the TDYCC as quickly as they did. The Red Cross was on the scene and responded to the CERT reception center/shelter with five volunteers. As there were only 28 people in need it was agreed the Red Cross would provide the necessary sheltering. The remaining residents relocated to family or friends.
The seamless coordination between the Police, the Red Cross and CERT resulted in the displaced residents being fed and having access to shelter within approximately six hours of previously being homeless.

As usual the CERT team volunteers did a professional job providing those in need with the help and respect required in such an emergency. Thank you: Sue Plath, Al Sarnotsky, Eva Yasgur, Jackie Egelman, Nina Cisterna, Danny Cisterna, Mark Jones and Harold Rose. Well done!

Interested in learning more about CERT. Please read the following and let us know if you're interested in volunteering and helping your neighbors who may be in need in  the event of emergencies--fires, hurricanes, nor'easters.  The CERT team does an incredible job helping out when needed.
