Last week I posted a memo from the Assessor, Edye McCarthy that clarified what an assessment change means to your tax bill. Some residents still may have questions. At tonight’s Town Board meeting the assessor will discuss the annual assessment changes and respond to your questions.
The meeting is held at Greenburgh Town Hall, 177 Hillside Ave, White Plains
Our meeting tonight starts at 7:30 PM but there are a number of presentations at the beginning of the meeting. If you would like to attend to hear her presentation – that portion of the meeting will likely start after 8 PM. Our meetings are also televised on local access TV and streamed on the town website:www.greenburghny.com. I will post the link to her presentation within the next few days.

railroad crossing safety challenge—a contest you might want to compete in…help make railroad crossings safer
It is no secret that the MTA’s Railroad Crossing’s are archaic. There are no sensors or communications with oncoming trains - if anything is stuck on the tracks.
The fact that Waze is now working to put crossing information on their mapping system doesn’t change the fact that the crossing themselves are out of date.
The signage and safety mechanisms date back to the 19th Century when railroads were most concerned with telling ranchers to keep their cattle herds off the tracks.
Even the signage itself is completely different from standard highway signs and incomprehensible to many of today’s motorists.
So, can you design a better crossing system?
In honor of the loss of their beloved Ellen Schaeffer Brody, the Brody family, in conjunction with the Digital Arts Experience of Scarsdale has set up a contest for the Best New Railroad Crossing Design.
With a cash prize of $500 and over $1,000 worth of sponsor award to the winner, this contest is open to all – with a special interest in highway engineers.
All submissions will be reviewed by a panel of engineers, along with winners from our previous Teen Challenge and members of Westchester Angels.
Finalists will be invited to present in person or by videoconference at the Digital Arts Experience in Scarsdale, NY on August 11th.
