Postal service update--some progress: Postal Service hires Westchester Postal Service Manager
Release Date: May 30, 2018

In recent years I have forwarded hundreds of complaints about postal service operations to the United States postmaster, members of Congress and to local postal officials. Earlier this year I was getting dozens of complaints A DAY from residents who received mail that was supposed to go to someone else. Many residents expressed concern: no deliveries on some days, checks and bills not being received, prescription drugs not being delivered.

Some positive news: The number of complaints I receive is down from dozens a day to one or two a  day on average (an improvement). The Postal Service has hired a new Westchester Manager Roxanne Hosein who I think is working very hard, getting back to people and problem solving.  I have received compliments from residents about her follow up.

There are still problems with the postal service and many people can't rely on dependable mail service. In recent weeks the postal service has been in the news --because some people are stealing mail from mail boxes.

https://www.lohud.com/story/news/local/westchester/yonkers/2018/05/29/rash-mail-theft-hits-yonkers/653034002/.  And, there have been news reports of inappropriate behavior by some postal service carriers (could be part timer's)  who did not deliver mail that they were supposed to deliver.  Many residents still don't have confidence that letters and mail that are being sent is actually being delivered to the right address.

Rome wasn't built in a day and it's going to take time to correct all the problems that currently exist.  Some of the problems with the postal service operations are national. But- progress is being made.

I asked Roxanne Hosein to write up a short memo about her new job and about herself. If you have concerns you could reach out to her directly. Please feel free to copy me since I am going to try to continue to push for improvements in service. And want to monitor the service you currently receive.

PAUL FEINER, Greenburgh Town Supervisor

A NOTE FROM THE WESTCHESTER POSTAL SERVICE MANAGER...

roxanne.hosein@usps.gov

Returning to the Postal Service's Westchester District is like a professional homecoming for me. My postal management career was launched in Westchester over twenty years ago in positions focusing on customer relations, marketing and postal operations. Living in Westchester, obtaining my MBA at Mercy and now returning to work in Westchester, I have a personal interest and committed in making a positive influence for my neighbors, colleagues and residents of Westchester.  It is genuinely gratifying to return  to be part of the 5,327 USPS Westchester team who are committed in strengthening and delivering our brand.

Like any other organization that competes for customers, it is essential that we continuously look for ways to adapt and improve. Under the leadership of Westchester District Manager Richard Conte, the good news is that we are beginning to receive positive feedback on our service; but rest assured, we have more work to do. The community feedback from our ongoing outreach activities is certainly paying dividends by helping us do a better job of identifying areas of opportunity for improvement.

If you would like to share feedback or concerns to me directly, please send to: roxanne.hosein@usps.gov.

In my role as a Post Office Operations Manager reporting to the District Manager, I was fortunate to have participated in the April 25 Town Hall Meeting in White Plains and the March 9 Westchester elected officials briefing session. In addition, I am glad that the 100+ "We're Listening Weekend" community forums included many of the Post Offices under my immediate administrative jurisdiction.

Our next "We're Listening Weekend" will be held on the weekend of June 2.  Postal managers will be in 23 local Westchester District Post Office lobbies once again from 11 a.m.to 2 p.m. talking to customers and soliciting their feedback. And if you can't make it to "We're Listening Weekend," give our toll-free Customer Care Center at 1-800-ASK-USPS (1-800-275-8777). You can also send us an email by visiting USPS.com, clicking on "Contact Us" at the bottom of our homepage, and following the prompts.

Looking to the future, the Westchester postal team recognizes the importance of working closely with the communities we serve. We will continue to solicit their input and use it to strengthen our commitment to every customer at the 1.1 million delivery addresses we serve in the Westchester District.

Roxanne Hosein

Post Office Operations Manager

USPS - Westchester District
