ELMSFORD BASKETBALL TEAM ARE CHAMPIONS --WATCH THE VIDEO OF THE CHAMPS BEING HONORED BY THE TOWN BD
The Town had several successful high school basketball teams this year. The Ardsley Boys basketball team reached the Class A State Title Game after Julian McGarvey intercepted an inbounds pass and made a 70-foot miracle shot at the buzzer for the school’s first Class A Section 1 Championship in 60 years.
The Irvington Girls basketball team reached the Class B State Title Game under legendary Coach Gina Maher, who now has 698 career victories, and fell one game short of a State Title.
Last week the Town Board honored the Alexander Hamilton High School Boys basketball team in Elmsford. The Red Raiders of Hamilton won the school’s first Class C Section 1 Championship since 2007, won the coveted Gold Ball and reached the Regional Championship Game at Pace University.
What makes the Elmsford team’s success special is that the team was coached by two dedicated Town employees, Keith Wright of the Town’s Parks and Recreation Department and Barry Barefoot of the Town’s Department of Public Works. These two longtime Town employees displayed great leadership, vision and patience as coaches and developed the necessary skill, determination and teamwork for the players to be successful.
The Town salutes all of the Hamilton coaches and players and presented Keith Wright and Barry Barefoot and all the champs with certificates. Watch the video!
We will also honor Ardsley and Irvington for their outstanding achievements at upcoming Board meetings.
