UPDATE--PRE PAYMENT OF TAXES...FEEL HORRIBLE THAT VILLAGE RESIDENTS CAN'T PRE-PAY VILLAGE TAXES
Release Date: December 27, 2017

It's been a very busy day at Town Hall with residents deciding to partially pre pay their 2018 town and fire district taxes. Others paid the 2nd half of the 2017 school tax.  The Receiver of Taxes office is  open tomorrow from 9 AM to 5 PM and on Friday from 9 AM to 12:30 PM to help you if wish to pay your taxes.  We expect that taxpayers will be able to pay by credit card tomorrow. We also tried to get our third party vendor to modify our electronic payments (for which there is no fee) to accept partial payments but they were unable to do in the short time between the Governor's executive order (Friday) and the end of the year.  However, as in the past, you will be able to make electronic payments for the 2nd  half of the school tax. There is no fee for the electronic payment for the 2nd half of the school tax since this has been in place for a number of years.

Regarding the partial pre payment of your town/fire district taxes you can pay by credit card--hopefully, starting sometime tomorrow. However, there is a fee imposed by the credit card company. I expect to post information on the credit card payments as soon as it is up and running. You can pre pay your town and fire district taxes before December 31, 2017 (11:59 PM).

As Supervisor of the town I feel horrible that village residents were not able to take advantage of pre-payment of taxes due to the requirement that a warrant be issued. The village budgets are not approved until April and government entities are not authorized to collect taxes that have not been assessed.  I want to thank all six Village Mayors for trying very hard to figure out a way to help their constituents.   The town portion of the tax for residents of the villages represents about 2% of the total tax bill.

I would like to thank Receiver of Taxes Anne Povella and her staff for working very hard today - processing hundreds of partial pre-tax payments and second half of the school tax payments. She and her staff, working with other town employees,  worked hard during the day to deal with the numbers of people who stopped at Town Hall.

Again, the town takes no position on whether you should pre-pay your taxes. Please consult your financial advisor.  Thanks to Joe Lucasey for updating the website even though he was on vacation and Dipak Pandya, our MIS department head for cancelling his vacation plans to help us address this unplanned initiative.  Town Board members Francis Sheehan, Diana Juettner, Kevin Morgan and Ken Jones have been working with town department heads to make this work.
