A SAFE PLACE FOR CRAIGSLIST, EBAY AND OTHER ONLINE EXCHANGE SITES...SAFE EXCHANGE LOCATION
Those purchasing items on Craigslist, Ebay and other online exchange sites have reason to feel safer in Greenburgh. Our Police Department established a safe exchange location at Greenburgh police headquarters on Route 119 where online buyers can meet to purchase items purchased on the internet. The location is under 24 hour surveillance and offers residents a safe alternative from the obvious risks of meeting a stranger for an online sale.
COLUMBIA AVE SIDEWALK CONSTRUCTION UPDATE...
The town engineering dept has the construction of the Columbia sidewalk project on their “to-do” list. Following our meeting last week, the Commissioner of Public Works met with the department and prioritized Columbia as our next top priority for a new sidewalk. We have survey work completed and have now reviewed the data. The engineers are currently identifying design issues along Columbia and are developing preliminary construction budgets. Towards the end of January, they expect preliminary budget to be developed and a first draft sketch plan assembled to enable a dialog with Con Edison for anticipated utility pole conflicts.
At this time, barring any complications, the project would be ready for bidding by the end of May, with construction planned for August and September of 2018. Earlier this year we met with many residents of Columbia Ave who expressed interest in seeing a sidewalk built on Columbia. The Town Board appropriated funds for this pedestrian safety initiative. I am very pleased that we will be able to keep our commitment.
We are working hard to make Greenburgh safer for pedestrians. The Columbia Ave sidewalk initiative is important because many commuters walk to the train station from Columbia and from streets near Columbia. In addition, children who walk to the Highview School on Central Ave also may walk on Columbia to get to and from school.
