IF YOU WANT TO GET RID OF YOUR OLD CAN LEAVE IT OUT WITH A NOTE AND WE WILL GET RID OF THE OLD CAN FOR YOU

In November, 2014 923 residents of the town became the first residents to get their garbage picked up with a truck that uses one employee instead of three.  An electronic hand picks up the garbage. Currently 2,400 properties are served by this innovative truck. On August 7 and 8 we will expand the program---6,200 additional properties will be served by the new truck.  Last week we started to distribute new sanitation carts/cans to those residents within the town.. We are distributing 65 gallon garbage containers to residents. We will complete the transition to other neighborhoods next year.  Our workforce will be reduced by attrition.

Larger 95 gallon and smaller 35 gallon carts are available for the residents to request; however, we ask that the residents try the 65 gallon cart for a short period of time and if they still feel the same way then to request a switch through the Town DPW. Please note the following:

·         Carts are only being distributed to 1 and 2 family homes .Commercial and industrial properties are not to receive a cart.

·         Carts are to be used ONLY for regular trash

·         Sanitation schedule is to remain the same

·         Recycling shall remain the same

·         Carts are to be used beginning Monday, August 7, 2017 and Tuesday, August 8, 2017

We will pick up your old cans and discard them. I asked if these old cans will be recycled. The Commissioner of Public Works, Victor Carosi sent me the following:

"I did confirm that large plastic items, such as garbage pails are not comparable with the recycling facility equipment, and the wide variety of plastic construction of the pails also provides difficult handling at the facility."
