Con Ed RESPONSE TO POWER OUTAGES ON SUPER BOWL SUNDAY--WHAT TO DO TODAY IF THERE IS A POWER OUTAGE
Release Date: March 01, 2017

On Super Bowl Sunday 1474 customers who reside on or near Central Ave lost power. I reached out to Con Ed and received a letter from David DeSanti, Vice President of Electric Operations for the Bronx and Westchester. He indicated that Con Ed investigated the cause. “The cause for these interruptions has been identified as a defective pole mounted vacuum reclosure switch. This switch and associated control equipment was replaced and tested by our overhead group on Tuesday February 6. An equipment failure of this particular type is quite rare.”

Today’s high winds and storms could result in more downed power lines, outages. The following memo was sent to me by Con Ed.  Feel free to e mail me or contact me on my cell (my cell is 438 1343). I will try to respond to every concern quickly if you experience any Con Ed related problems.
Our public works and police department are also ready to assist.

STRONG STORMS, HIGH WINDS
EXPECTED TODAY

Con Edison offers the following storm tips to customers to help weather the possible effects of a storm:

·         If you see downed electrical wires, do not go near them. Treat all downed wires as if they are live. Never attempt to move them or touch them with any object. Be mindful that downed wires can be hidden from view by, tree limbs, leaves or water.
·         Report all downed wires to Con Edison and your local police department immediately. If a power line falls on your car while you’re in it, stay inside the vehicle and wait for emergency personnel.
·         If your power goes out, disconnect or turn off appliances that would otherwise turn on automatically when service is restored.  If several appliances start up at once, the electric circuits may overload.
·         Check to make sure your flashlights and any battery-operated radios or televisions are in working order. Make sure you have a supply of extra batteries. Weather updates and news on restorations of electrical service can be heard on most local radio and television stations.
