WOODLANDS HIGH SCHOOL GARDENING CLUB PARTNERS WITH JUNIPER HILL CIVIC ASSOCIATION
Release Date: April 18, 2016

Juniper Hill's Fair St. "Earth Day" Clean-up and Beautification

The Woodlands High School Gardening Club, the Juniper Hill Civic Association, and the Town of Greenburgh kicked off a new program to clean up and beautify the roadside strip along Fair Street alongside the Metropolis Golf Club fence.

Led by President of the Woodlands Gardening Club Samantha Simpson, Town Parks and Rec’s Mike Nestler and the Juniper Hill Civic Association’s executive board a plan emerged that calls for an extensive cleanup of the area, planting of low growing ornamental trees - Kousa Dogwoods and Red Buds and a mixture of annuals and perennials  around a newly refurbished “Welcome to Juniper Hill” sign - all courtesy of Parks and Rec.  Stage 1 was completed on Sunday with a complement of 17 hardy souls who showed up with rakes, paper pickers, shovels and the will to work.  Parks and Rec supplied gardening gloves, yellow reflective vests and garbage bags.

Said Sue Mirialakis, JHCA President - "This is like an archeological dig. We started raking up debris and found dozens of golf balls, countless old and broken bottles, discarded clothing, rusted tools, wiring, part of electronics equipment, etc.  We hope to do this every Spring in honor of Earth Day and are really grateful to the Woodlands H.S. Gardening Club who will be on hand to plant the flowers when they arrive and to Paul Feiner and the Town of Greenburgh for encouragement and assistance.”  Thanks go to the Dept of Public Works for an initial clean-up of vines along the fence and their pick up of the 40 odd bags of organic and trash debris.

The Fair St. clean-up group hopes to plant grass seed on the newly raked areas to ensure weeds don’t take hold.  Special thanks go to Mike Nestler, Rich Fons, Paul Feiner, and Samantha Simpson, her cousin Michael and to all those who worked on the project: Arthur Chisolm, Sheryl Breuninger, Wen-Lin Murray, Johan and Dannette Snaggs and their children, Lance Downer, Andre Burrows and his two daughters, Alphonso Leonce, Clinton Pinnock, Seth Segall, Sue Mirialakis and Cheryl and Steve Howcott for donating two cases of water to the cause.    --
A big THANK YOU TO ALL THE VOLUNTEERS FOR MAKING OUR TOWN MORE BEAUTIFUL!
Paul Feiner
