XPOSURE AFTER SCHOOL GRAD (HARVARD STUDENT) & CURRENT STUDENTS SWEAR SUPERVISOR INTO OFFICE
Release Date: January 14, 2016

In 2008 Awa Nyambi was a young boy—a participant in an innovative after school program that the town had just started called Xposure. The after school program, which is run out of the Theodore Young Community Center, is not a baby sitting program for elementary school children. Students like Awa invest money in the stock market, they open savings accounts and learn practical skills. TODAY Awa is a freshman at Harvard, a 2015 graduate of Woodlands High School.   I asked him to swear me into office at Town Supervisor (I’m beginning my 25th year). The girls holding the bible are all students attending the Greenburgh school district ---they are enrolled in the Xposure after school program and host their own radio program which broadcasts out of Greenburgh Town Hall: XposureGreenburgh!  Awa indicated that his experiences at Xposure helped him gain an interest in finance.   Watch the swearing in ceremony

Yesterday’s Town Board public hearing on the proposal to build 272 apartments on Lawrence (Jefferson apartment proposal) near downtown Ardsley made town history. For the first time in history – we couldn’t accommodate the hundreds of residents who attended and wished to testify re: the proposed development. The auditorium was overcrowded – filled to capacity. Some people had to watch the meeting on TV monitors in other rooms and others left in frustration because they couldn’t find a seat to watch the Town Board meeting.  Everyone who spoke expressed opposition to  the proposal, citing traffic, school, flooding, parking concerns- among others. Mitigation suggestions were made by those who testified – in the event that the developer chooses to proceed with the application.

The Town Board has scheduled a second scoping hearing for February 10th, 2016 at 7:30 PM at Greenburgh Town Hall. If you want to watch the meeting –take a look at this video link.  The Town Board is required by law to review land use applications.
