RESPONSE TO WESTCHESTER COUNTY'S REQUEST FOR PROPOSALS FOR ABANDONED LA CANTINA RESTAURANT AT MACY PARK TURN THE ABANDONED BUILDING INTO A  BOATHOUSE--RENT CANOES, NON MOTORIZED BOATS AS WELL AS BICYCLES  (photo of lake attached)
 
 Westchester County is seeking proposals from the private sector  to convert  the abandoned La Cantina's restaurant at Macy Park off the Saw Mill River Parkway for some public use.   I have a suggestion:
  I suggest that the building be converted into a bicycle and non motorized boating rental shop. Tourist info about Westchester could also be shared at the site.   Non motorized boats are allowed in Central Park.  Macy Park, the location of the abandoned La Cantina restaurant, is a beautiful park --in close proximity to the South County bicycle trail and a short walk to the spectacular lake at Macy park. A boathouse, bike rental shop and a small café would be an attractive addition and would encourage people to enjoy one of the region's most attractive assets.   Perhaps, if non motorized boating is a success at Macy park it will encourage the county to drop their opposition to plans to allow Sprain Lake to also be used for non motorized boats.
  In addition, using the building for a park related purpose would remind developers, public officials and the community that the parkway should not become another Central Ave with over development. The Saw Mill River Parkway's picturesque landscape must be preserved.
