Leaders and members of Catholic, Jewish, Protestant, Mormon, and Muslim Westchester/Fairfield congregations and faith groups will sponsor an interfaith service in White Plains on June 28 “to affirm racial equality and dignity,” in light of the tragic murders of nine people this week at an African-American church in South Carolina.
The event will feature worship, music, discussion, and supper.
“The timing of this service so close to both July 4th and the shocking tragedy in Charleston will deepen its meaningfulness to us all,” organizers stated.

“This will be the third in a series of prayer services as an interfaith response to recent events,” organizers said. “The first service was held during the Gaza Conflict last summer, and the second was held following the terrorist attacks in Paris this past winter. This service is now especially timely and poignant.”
The community-wide event is free and open to the public, but pre-registration is required.
It will be held on Sunday, June 28, from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at the Mount Hope AME Zion Church, 65 Lake Street, White Plains.
