Google glass help people with autism...Greenburgh relay for life Friday June 19 Yosemite Park
Release Date: June 19, 2015

I had an opportunity to try out Google glass yesterday at the Greenburgh Library.   Joey Lombardi of Ardsley joined me - enjoying some of the features of Google glasses. Joey has autism An organization called Brain Power (Brain-power.co) has developed a google glass program that fosters practical life skills and tracks progress toward self sufficiency.

Some features: eye contact coach: Google Glass has an app that detects faces, cartoonifies to catch attention and rewards eye contact.  The google glass has an emotion decode. Algorithms extract emotions from face and other data, decode and simplify for child.  There are emotion games: videogame style coaching and assessment as child self quizzes on emotions.

Joey Lombardi, a young man with autism and son of community leader Phyllis Lombardi joined me at the Greenburgh Library. Joey loved the google glasses. And...the glasses record info like how often a kid rocks or has eye contact. When a child rocks it projects a soothing image. Joey calmed down immediately and kept the glasses on for a good hour. Many people in the community have family members with autism. I invited representatives of Brain Power to attend a Town Board meeting  and to  show off this amazing invention during the summer at a community event.  It can help.  You'll have the chance to ALSO try google glass yourself!

Community members of Greenburgh! Relay For Life of White Plains-Greenburgh is this Friday, June 19th at Yosemite Park! Friends, family, organizations, and the community at large are encouraged to come and participate in the American Cancer Society’s signature fundraising event in the fight against cancer! Relay For Life is a very personal, very moving event where we celebrate cancer survivors, remember those we have lost, and fight back against a disease that takes too much from too many. The entire evening is dedicated to fighting back as a community, while also taking the time to have fun with entertainment, music, and activities. Participation is free, and Opening Ceremony begins at 7:00pm, during which survivors and caregivers will be honored with a celebratory lap. Additionally, there will be a Survivor Reception at 5:30pm for all survivors and their caregivers to attend and enjoy a free dinner. Please visit www.relayforlife.org/whiteplainsny for more details and to sign up, or reach out to your American Cancer Society Staff Partner, Katie DiVenuto, at 914-397-8865. Together, we will finish this fight!
