FREE GARBAGE CANS TO BE DELIVERED (NEIGHBORHOODS GETTING NEW GARBAGE COLLECTION
Release Date: June 07, 2015

This week the town will supply residents of parts of Edgemont, Mayfair Acres, Taylor Road and the Manor (the area to the east of Knollwood Road) - a free garbage can. The reason: those neighborhoods will soon get their garbage picked up by our new truck which uses an automated hand (not a human) to pick up garbage.  A letter went out to residents of these neighborhoods last month advising of the new service.
Garbage has been picked up by the "one arm bandit" sanitation truck at Valimar, Winding Ridge and Poet's Corner since last year. The truck uses one employee, not three and helps the town save money - fewer injuries and disability related complaints. We are able to reduce our workforce by attrition. And, have been told that this new garbage trucks  helps reduce rodent problems.
We have been able to expand the program because we recently acquired a 2nd truck. A third one is being budgeted for in the 2015 capital budget (which will be approved on Wednesday evening). And service will be expanded to another section of town once the new truck arrives

SONIC AND LANDLORD UNABLE TO REACH AGREEMENT TO OPEN RESTAURANT AT OLD HEALTH CENTER
Spencer Hart recently met with the Greenburgh Town Board at a televised Town Board work session and advised the Board that he was hoping to open up a SONIC restaurant at the site of the Greenburgh Health Center. After I posted the announcement I was overwhelmed with e mails from excited residents.  Some disappointing news to those who looked forward to Sonic coming to Greenburgh....

Received an e mail from Spencer late last week advising that he was unable to reach an agreement with the landlord to open up a Sonic at the site of the old Greenburgh Health Center. He indicated that "we would be very interested in finding a site in Greenburgh for Sonic - we'll keep looking, but don't hesitate to let us know if you become aware of something for us - we would need about an acre and prefer high traffic, high visibility sites - thanks".

Some people might think I publicized the news about Sonic prematurely. It's my policy to try to communicate what's happening in town almost as soon as I learn of possible developments. I don't like to surprise residents and also welcome feedback early on in the process. And, Sonic advised the Town Board of their interest in moving to the town at a public Town Board meeting.
