Riverkeeper and the Indian Point Safe Energy Coalition Kickoff Campaign

to Stop 20-Year License Extensions for Indian Point

 

Greenburgh, NY   Robert F. Kennedy, Jr, Chief Prosecuting Attorney for the Putnam-based environmental group Riverkeeper, will call on residents to join in the efforts to prevent 20-year license extensions for the Indian Point nuclear power plant on Tuesday March 29 at 6:30PMGreenburgh Town Hall, 177 HillSIDE Ave, Greenburgh, NY. 

 

The fight to stop relicensing has been underway since WestchesterCountypassed a resolution opposing relicensing in December 2003. The resolution, authored by County Legislator Michael Kaplowitz, was the first of its kind in the country. Since then, Rockland, Hudson, NJ, and UlsterCounties, along with 16 municipal boards have passed similar resolutions.  To date, over 400 elected officials have called for the closure of Indian Point; 52 municipal boards have passed shutdown resolutions.

DETAILS:      IPSEC is a coalition of over 70 environmental, health and public policy organizations that formed in response to a flood of citizen concerns about the safety of Indian Point nuclear power plants after the terrorist attacks on 9.11.01.  Its goal is to ensure the safety and security of our neighborhoods by bringing about the closure of Indian Point and its safe and orderly decommissioning.
