WE MAKE HOUSECALLS, GREENBURGH SCHOOL SUCCESS STORIES INITIATIVE BEGINS FRIDAY NIGHT
Release Date: June 08, 2014

On Saturday afternoon Edye McCarthy, town assessor and I met with members of the Hartsdale Park Civic Association.  Thank you Edye for taking time out of your weekend to meet with residents. And, thank you to the members of the civic association for sharing your questions and comments about the town with us.

We answered questions residents have about reassessment and discussed other concerns residents have --including traffic safety issues.

These outreach meetings are very helpful  because your town officials  get a better sense what residents are concerned about. And, if neighbors disagree with town policies - we can  reflect on the comments made. This is your government -- we want to be responsive to the community. And, want you to feel that you are partners in the decision making processes of your government.

If you would like to schedule a neighborhood meeting on your street weekdays, weekends, evenings - please advise. Or, if your civic association wants to schedule a larger meeting we will attend. We make housecalls!   E mail me what your concerns are. If you want me to invite other town officials to the housecall meetings please let me know what the topics are and I'll try to coordinate their schedule with your suggested meeting dates.  My e mail is pfeiner@greenburghny.com.

NOMINATIONS WANTED---SUCCESS STORIES  GREENBURGH SCHOOLS

DR. ANDREW NOVO TO MAKE PRESENTATION TO COMMUNITY FRIDAY NIGHT AT TOWN HALL, 7:30 pm

Greenburgh schools Success Stories:

Tired of reading negative stories about the Greenburgh  Central school district?  Many former students at Woodlands have become success stories. I'd like to profile them in the coming months.  Among the former students: Matt Lauer--host of the TODAY SHOW.

YESTERDAY I MET A MOM OF A GRAD WHO ATTENDED HARVARD AND IS A SCHOOL PRINCIPAL...DAUGHTER A SURGEON...

Yesterday, when I was at the civic association meeting I talked with a woman whose son and daughter graduated Woodlands. Her son went to Harvard, her daughter went to Cornell. He is a principal of a school. Their daughter is a surgeon.  A few weeks ago, when I was marching in a Memorial Day parade, I met another graduate of Woodlands who is currently an elected member of the White Plains School Board. There are hundreds of success stories.

GIVE SCHOOLS A CHANCE....

If we highlight the success stories more  people  will give the Greenburgh school district a chance. I'm convinced that if parents keep their children in the school system- that their kids will get a great education.

Dr.  Andrew Novo grew up in Greenburgh. He attended the Greenburgh schools. He is now a Professor at National Defense University in Washington DC and a prominent  expert in history and holds two graduate degrees from the University of Oxford –including Princeton (Magna Cum Laude).

He will be in Greenburgh on Friday June 13 -discussing his most recent book “Queen of Cities.” He will be giving a lecture at Town Hall at 7:30 PM.   If you would like to nominate a graduate of the Greenburgh Central 7 School district for an upcoming Greenburgh success story profile – please e mail me the info at pfeiner@greenburghny.com.  In the past- I have suggested to the Central Greenburgh School Board that they create a wall of honor---I think it would be reassuring for students, parents and those considering Greenburgh as a place to live to recognize that the school system has played a positive role in producing some great successes.
