BYRNE NAMED EMPLOYEE OF THE YEAR

TIME MAGAZINE named George Bush Person of the year on Sunday, December 19th. Greenburgh Town Supervisor Paul Feiner named Gerry Byrne, Commissioner of Parks for the Town of Greenburgh "Employee of the Year" today.
Feiner said that Gerry Byrne and the Parks Department have accomplished a tremendous amount in 2004 --their achievements have been outstanding. Among the accomplishments in 2004 were:
1) The new interactive spray pool at Anthony Veteran Town Park ---which opened up to the delight of many children and parents.
2) Awarding phase 1 park improvements for Glenville Woods Park preserve. Installation of a playground, gravel parking lot, bridge, fencing, plantings and trails. The project also included cleaning of the park.
3) The town, along with the county and state purchased 181 ares of parkland now known as Taxter Ridge Park Preserve. During Gerry Byrne's tenure as Parks Commissioner the town's parks have increased from 200 acres to more than 600!
4) Renovations to the Massaro Park Building were completed.
5) A disabled accessable concrete walkway was installed at AFV Park Pool complex.
6) Park and Recreation Naming policy were adopted. This policy establishes criteria for the naming of parks, fields and facilities.
7)Renovations were made to the Travis Hill Park restrooms.
8)Old Tarrytown Road Park Renovations were comploeted using capital funding along with a CDBS, two new playgrounds were built, the basketball court redesigned and park furnishings installed.
9) The first annual Dog Day of Summer special event was held at the town pool--hundreds of dogs and dog owners enjoyed this event.
10) Cotwold District capital park improvements at O'Gorman Park and along Central Ave were made. THis included a new staircase, field regarding, new plantings and a tree buffer created along Central Ave.
11) Additional programs for Youth Empowerment Program and a very successful Celebrate Greenburgh Day.
Gerry Byrne will be honored at the first meeting of the Greenburgh Town Board on January 12, 2005.
