A SALUTE TO RETIRING CHIEF OF POLICE JOSEPH DECARLO--MONDAY, NOV 25 AT 7:30 pm
Release Date: November 20, 2013

You are invited to help the Greenburgh Town Board salute retiring Police Chief Joseph DeCarlo on Monday evening, November 25th at 7:30 PM.
At the beginning of the Town Board meeting we will thank the Chief for his years of service to our town.
The meeting will take place at Greenburgh Town Hall.

Chief Joseph DeCarlo will be retiring as Greenburgh Police Chief at the end of the month. Chief DeCarlo dedicated 36 years of his life to the Greenburgh police department. During his tenure with the department crime has gone down to historic lows. Chief DeCarlo should be thanked for his years of dedicated service, hard work and efforts to make our town a better place. He's been a great asset to our community.

Chief DeCarlo oversees the fifth largest municipal police agency in Westchester.Unique among police departments in New York is Greenburgh's Paramedic Unit that provides emergency medical services up to the Advanced Life Support level to residents of the town and its six incorporated villages. Other specialized units are Special Weapons and Tactics, Technical Rescue, Crime Prevention and the Community Policing detail where foot and bicycle patrol officers are assigned to neighborhoods within the town.

Our community policing commitment extends particularly to the young people within the township. The Juvenile Aid Unit is tasked not only with addressing juvenile crime but more importantly with both creating and actively participating in proactive programs designed to provide our youngsters with the resources and ability necessary to make the correct decisions in their lives. Some examples of these programs are the Youth Court, Explorers program and summer police camp.

The department also maintains and operates a wireless mobile data system that supports about 100 computer terminals in the motorized patrol units of twenty police agencies within Westchester. This system directly connects the officer working in the street with federal and state databases while providing a fully functional computer workstation within which various law enforcement related software is maintained.

On November 12, 2013 the Greenburgh Police Department SWAT team (Special Weapons and Tactics Team) received accreditation from the NYS Municipal training Council Division of Criminal Justice Services. This agency is the first multi-jurisdictional team in NYS to receive this accreditation and only the fourth overall, including Westchester County Police Department, White Plains Police department and Syracuse Police Department.

A big thank you to Chief Joseph DeCarlo for his years of service and for making our police department an outstanding agency.
PAUL FEINER
