GREENBURGH TO LOSE $465,145 thanks to the NY State
Release Date: September 19, 2004

GreenburghTown Supervisor Paul Feiner announced that the Greenburgh Town Board will vote on a resolution this coming Wednesday night urging the NY State Legislature to restore traffic fine revenue. Earlier this year the State Legislature approved chapter 56 of the laws of 2004 and changed the distribution of fines. Fines, which used to go to local governments, will now go to the State. The Town of Greenburghwill likely lose $465,145- in anticipated fine revenue.

Many local governments are calling on the State Legislature to restore the source of revenue to local governments. Local governments will lose more than $20 million in fine monies ---monies which have historically been used to fund justice court operations.

State Senator Bonacic and Assemblyman Cahill have introduced legislation in Albany to restore this source of revenue to local governments. Please contact Assemblyman Richard Brodsky and State Senator Nick Spano and urge them to push for the adoption of this repeal legislation. Senator Spano’s e mail is SPANO@SENATE.STATE.NY.US and Assemblyman Brodsky’s email is Brodsky@assembly.state.ny.us  .
