Dear Paul,
It was a pleasure to talk with you recently about Greenville Cemetery, which is quietly situated in our community between Central Avenue shops and the Edgemont High School ball fields. It is an historic cemetery, as you know. With approximately 500 graves, the cemetery is a resting place for many of the community’s founding families including Underhill, Seely, Lawrence and Tompkins.
Unfortunately the cemetery is not endowed and its maintenance is seriously neglected due to a shortage of funds. The work list includes the following:
-
Trees and shrubs need to be cut back and taken away.
-
The entrance road needs to be improved.
-
Several stone markers, toppled by vandals, should be re-set.
Please pass on to others our intentions to restore Greenville Cemetery to its proper place in the community.
If you know of contractors who are working in our area and who might offer some "pro bono" work, please let them know.
Thank you in advance for your support.
Sincerely,
Edward
