The conference, the first of its kind in Westchester County, will provide an opportunity to learn from special educators, parents, and fellow first responders, about effective and compassionate engagement with individuals on the autism spectrum in emergency situations. It is expected that the trainers who attend the conference will bring their newly gained knowledge back to their home communities, to teach other first responders and begin a new or greater engagement with families who have members with special needs.
This is a ground-breaking training session to help Westchester first responders become sensitive to the behaviors and needs of individuals on the autism spectrum. There are practical applications in police stops, fire emergencies, domestic disputes, etc.
The program will begin with a welcome by Paul Feiner, Town Supervisor of Greenburgh, and county public safety officials.
The presenters are:
