Rivertowns’ High Schools To Offer Driver’s Education
Through Inter-Village Continuing Ed

Registration Has Started
Mandatory Orientation for Summer Session is Friday, June 25th

The Rivertowns’ quad-village High Schools will be offering Driver’s Education certification for the first time beginning with the summer session, which runs from July-1st-August 16th. In-classroom instruction will be held at Dobbs Ferry, Hastings and Ardsley High Schools (Irvington High School will offer the course for fall term), and the driving instruction will be provided in conjunction with PAS Auto School. The fee for the entire program is $475 for district students and $495 for out-of-district participants. The new driver’s education program is being administered by Inter-Village Continuing Education.

The summer program consists of sixteen 90-minute driving sessions and sixteen 90-minute lectures. Classes are held Monday-Friday and students must be available all five days. However, the sessions are conveniently scheduled with early morning and evening hours to accommodate working students, with additional daytime sign-up options. Applications are available on each School Districts Homepage, as well as online at www.intervillage.org (click on Forms in the upper right hand corner) or students can pick up an application in their High School. Students who register early will have the best choice of lecture and driving times.

Classroom instruction will be taught by New York State certified teachers who are approved and certified to teach driver education. The program will provide intensive driving practice and safety instruction, along with practical ‘rules-of-the-road’ knowledge to ultimately help students obtain their license and become careful and intelligent drivers.

Requirements for taking Driver’s Education include:
• You must have a permit by July 1, 2010
• You must be available all five days (no class on Monday, July 5th)
• You must attend a mandatory orientation on June 25th at 6 p.m. at Ardsley High School

Benefits of taking Driver’s Education include:
• Learn to drive safely and defensively
• Senior driving privileges at 17-years-old
• Lower insurance premiums (check with your insurance company for details)
