FISHER LANE BRIDGE RESTRICTED TO SINGLE LANE --PRAYER SERVICE FOR IRVINGTON POLICE OFFICER INJURED T
Release Date: April 22, 2010

The Fisher Lane Bridge, crossing over the Bronx River near the North White Plains train station is temporarily restricted to single lane vehicular traffic in the eastbound direction only.  The bridge was recently inspected and it was determined that structural deficiencies exist limiting the weight across the span.  This morning, our consulting engineers recommended that the bridge be restricted to a single lane of traffic immediately, and the DPW established the recommended lane closure by noon.

This temporary closure of one traffic lane across the bridge is being coordinated with neighboring municipalities as well as Metro North Railroad.  Our consultant is assisting with these efforts.  At this time, a flyer is being printed for distribution to the vehicles currently parked in the commuter lot, identifying a detour, as west bound traffic is now prohibited across the span.  Additionally, we have contracted with a construction company to establish a detour with appropriate signage to better assist motorists around the lane closure.

Our consulting engineers are directed to prepare a report detailing the current bridge conditions and an assessment of its capacities and needs, as well as both emergency repairs and a permanent solution.  The current situation is temporary only.  An action plan is being developed to inform the Board of both a short term temporary repair time frame that may reestablish two-way traffic and a long-term permanent repair for the span.

I will keep the Town Board informed of this work as new information becomes available.
