GREENBURGH COULD BE GREENER IF PEOPLE DONATED POTTED CHRISTMAS TREES TO TOWN
Release Date: January 01, 2010

How can we make Greenburgh greener, at little or no cost to the town? Some communities around the nation encourage residents to purchase potted Christmas trees and to donate the trees to the locality in January, after the holiday season. Why throw out a tree when the tree can make the community greener?
I would like Greenburgh to initiate this program during the Christmas season, 2010. If residents donate a potted tree to the town we can plant the trees in parks, at key locations around town. Donors could receive a tax deduction for their gift. Thought you'd be interested in the following--about a program in Bayonne. This program exists around the nation--with lots of success.
This suggestion (which was inspired by an article sent to me by Greenburgh resident Murray Bodin)  is timely --in recent weeks many residents who reside near the Aqueduct (Sprain Road, Old Farm Road, Ridge Road and other neighborhoods) have expressed concern because Con Ed cleared numerous trees near their transmission lines. State Senator Andrea Stewart Cousins , members of the town Board and I will be holding a community meeting next Saturday, January 9th at 2 PM at Greenburgh Town Hall. We will then conduct a walking inspection of some of the neighborhoods that were impacted by the Con Ed clear cutting.
