SEELY SCHOOL HONORS VETERANS--AND WORKS WITH HISTORY CHANNEL, ALTICE--ANOTHER FREE MEAL FOR VETERANS
Release Date: November 10, 2016

Some local schools in our town are doing their part to make Veterans day meaningful for students. This morning I had the opportunity to attend a very inspiring program at the Seely Place School. The school worked with the History Channel's Take a Veteran to School initiative and Altice USA (previously cablevision).

Take a Veteran to School Day is a national program developed by HISTORY to link veterans with students nationwide. Schools and communities invite veterans of all backgrounds to share their stories and receive thanks for their service. Altice Connects and Optimum joined History Channel at Seely Place School for this event.  The assembly was for  4-6 grade students.

Now in its 10th year, over 25,000 schools in all 50 states have participated in this program. Take a Veteran to School Day is a meaningful way for students to learn about Veterans Day, honor veterans, and learn about the meaning of service.  Seely Place School has participated for several years in Take a Veteran to School Day with an assembly. Some veterans visited with the students and discussed their experiences protecting our country.   Among participants: Abbe Raven, chair emeritus of A & E networks and Jim Babchak of A & E networks. Veterans Troy Smith, Tom Mooney and Joe Worley who brought his vet dog Benjamin from Vet Dogs of America.
I am sure that many of the students who attended the presentations will never forget their opportunity to interact with veterans and to say thank you for their efforts protecting our democracy.
