It's upsetting anytime you drive down a commercial street (Central Avenue, 119, E Hartsdale Ave, Saw Mill River Road) and see empty, vacant stores. That's why many of us are pleased with the economic development activity that will be taking place on Route 119 in the Fairview section of town!
The former Greenburgh Health Center building has been vacant for years. Other buildings near the old Health center have also been vacant. And the Joyce Leslie Building near Town Hall has significant vacant space as well. Soon that will change for the better.
Earlier this month the Greenburgh Planning Board granted site plan approval associated with the demolition of three existing vacant buildings (including the former Greenburgh Health Center bldg.) and construction of a new 15,000 sq. ft. retail building with related site improvements/landscaping. Demolition is expected to commence October 2016 and building construction is anticipated to be completed by July 2017. The building will be occupied by Harbor Freight Tools (650 stores nationwide). This new development, combined with the major façade upgrade to the former Joyce Leslie building (currently underway) at 250 Tarrytown Road will enhance this portion of Rt. 119.
