Yesterday,  the Southern Greenville Civic Association organized a terrific event.  Children and members of the community walked Fort Hill Road and cleaned up debris along the road. Bags of litter were collected (see photo that is attached of the volunteers clearing road).  It's sad that  motorists continue to throw debris out of their  car windows. Those who are caught littering will be fined but it's impossible to catch everyone.The town public works department also tries to clean up debris alongside of the road. But as soon as we leave sections of town people start littering again. Some of the children signed a petition encouraging the town to post no littering signs on Fort Hill Road and to step up enforcement. 

This clean up was not the first neighborhood organized cleanup held in the town in recent months.  Earlier this year the Juniper Hill Civic Association also conducted a cleanup and enlisted the help of residents

Because Fort Hill Road is such a busy road the police department helped out. The police enlisted the help of the Explorers--a group of young people who serve the public without compensation in the interest of law enforcement and public service. .
