IMPORTANT INFO ON TOMORROWS HISTORIC SNOW STORM...
Release Date: January 25, 2015

A major snow storm is projected to hit Greenburgh and the northeast beginning tomorrow. The snow will start coming down tomorrow and could exceed 2 feet -some have indicated that the storm could result in 3 feet of snow!  A short time ago I received an e mail from the Westchester County Office of Emergency Management forecasting general snowfall from 1 1/2 to 2 1/2 feet with local amounts in excess of three feet. North winds of 20 to 40 mph with gust up to 65 mph will create widespread blowing and drifting snow causing blizzard conditions.  The Huffington Post claims this could be the biggest snow in NY history.

The Greenburgh  Police, and DPW and Highway crews are preparing for this snow storm. During snow storms I send out frequent e mails to residents with updates on issues, street closings, power outages and changes in garbage pickup schedules--if the road is very bad. You can also call me on my cell: 438-1343 if you need to reach me personally or e mail me at pfeiner@greenburghny.com .

WHEN THERE IS A MAJOR STORM IT TAKES US AT LEAST A FEW HOURS TO GET TO EVERY STREET--SOMETIMES LONGER. WE COULD BE ON YOUR STREET AT 10 AM AND BY 10:15 THE ROAD IS BAD AGAIN.  YOUR BEST BET- DURING SNOW STORMS IS TO STAY HOME.

HOW YOU CAN HELP!
  • Do not drive when snow is falling.  Stay off the road and allow DPW to clear the snow.
  • Do not park on streets. We need   to be able to plow the streets overnight.
  • If you have a driveway, please consider parking your vehicles in the driveway so the DPW can plow to the curb.
  • Do not move police barricades, tape, traffic cones.  They are put into place to protect you during an emergency.
  • Do not blow, shovel or plow snow into the street once the street has been plowed.
  • Please clear sidewalks of snow as soon as possible. Please clear nearby fire hydrants of snow.
  • Please check on elderly or infirmed neighbors
IF THERE ARE POWER OUTAGES THE TOWN WILL OPEN UP AN EMERGENCY SHELTER.  The CERT team of volunteers, working with the police department, has overseen these shelters in the past.
