Winter Parking and Crime Trends
Release Date: November 30, 2018

Good Afternoon,
Our Winter Snow Parking Rules commence this evening at midnight and continue to March 15th. Parking is prohibited on all town roads (with the exception of those enumerated in the Town Code) between the hours of 1:00am and 6:00am. The Snow Emergency effecting metered parking spaces along Columbia Avenue and East Hartsdale Avenue has been permanently added to the Town Code.

Several crime trends continue to effect most Westchester communities, including Greenburgh. The crime of larceny from unlocked cars during the overnight hours is occurring again. Please remember to remove/hide valuables and to lock your cars at all times. We have made numerous arrests of individuals for these crimes, and it has made a difference, but the crimes are continuing throughout the county.

1.      This time of year we are also seeing an increase in packages being stolen from outside residences. Please take the following measures to protect against being victimized:

2.      Have packages delivered to your work

3.      Install video cameras/video doorbell

4.      Reroute or reschedule delivery

5.      Buddy up with a neighbor to have packages received

6.      Require a signature

7.      Pick up packages in person

8.      Consider using a smart locker or lockbox

We continue to see different scams attempted via telephone and computer. DO NOT PAY OR DONATE MONEY THAT IS SOLICITED OVER THE PHONE OR COMPUTER. Please do not send money (via Western Union, pre-paid cash cards, green dot money cards or any other method of payment) to anyone that solicits over the phone. Reputable entities generally do not solicit money over the phone.

In closing, we ask that you help us to keep you safe. If you see something suspicious, say something. Please call us at 914-989-1700 or via 911. Be alert of your surroundings and put the phones down when driving and walking.

Respectfully,
Chief Chris McNerney
